About Us

Shine South was formerly known as Southampton and District Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association. In 1962 a group was created by parents called South Hants Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association to support parents and children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. In 1964 the group split and was led by Mr Frank Mortimer MBE and become Southampton & District Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association. In 2015 we became affiliated to Shine and with a new name change to incorporate Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.

Our aim is to improve and enhance the lives of those with or affected by Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus. Shine South bring members together through social and fundraising events, information sharing days and telephone support. We help with grants and signpost to other useful orgainisations.

Although Shine South is an independent registered charity we have close links with SHINE National and we encourage our members to be members of both charities.
